Houthis Claim First Missile Strike on Israel Since Iran Conflict Escalation

(MENAFN) Yemen’s Houthi movement announced on Saturday that it had launched its first strike on Israeli targets since the outbreak of the US-Israeli confrontation with Iran, according to reports.

In a recorded statement shared online, group spokesperson Yahya Saree said: “The Yemeni Armed Forces (Houthi forces) conducted their first military operation using a barrage of ballistic missiles against sensitive military objectives of the Israeli enemy in southern occupied Palestine.”

He explained that the attack was carried out “in response to ongoing military escalation, targeting of infrastructure, and perpetration of crimes and massacres against our brothers in Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, and Palestine.”

Saree further indicated that such operations are expected to continue, warning that the group’s actions “will continue until the declared objectives are achieved.”

Separately, it was reported by Israeli official broadcasting sources that the military detected incoming launches originating from Yemen aimed at southern Israel, marking the first such incident since the war began.

The latest developments came after the Houthis issued a warning a day earlier about the possibility of “direct military intervention” if additional parties align with the US and Israel against Iran, or if maritime routes such as the Red Sea are used to support operations against Tehran.

The group had previously carried out missile and drone strikes targeting Israel as well as vessels in the Red Sea, framing those actions as a response to Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, where more than 72,000 people have been killed since October 2023, according to.

At the same time, US and Israeli forces have maintained air operations against Iran since late February, with reported fatalities exceeding 1,300, including senior leadership figures such as Ali Khamenei, as stated by reports.

Iran, in turn, has launched retaliatory drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel and other regional locations, including Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military installations, resulting in casualties, damage to infrastructure, and wider disruptions affecting global markets and air travel.
